UK Police Call for Uniform Policy on Taser

A statement by Joint Central Committees of the Police Federation's representing England and Wales , Northern Ireland and Scotland .

“A uniform and consistent policy on the deployment of Taser throughout the UK is urgently needed. This is the message to the governments and chief officers of the UK by the staff associations representing the interest of the UK 's rank and file police officers.

Taser is proven to be a less lethal option which can safeguard the public, suspects and police officers. Today at a special meeting in Belfast , the Police Federation of England and Wales , the Police Federation for Northern Ireland and the Scottish Police Federation joined forces to call upon their respective governments to ensure that all police officers have the same skills and training wherever they serve, rather than the fragmented approach to training and deployment currently in place.

Making Taser available to all officers will not only provide the best non lethal equipment available but will go a long way to ensure that public and officer safety remains paramount in today's volatile climate.”
