Withdrawal
of Honda Motorcycle for Police Use |
Following
evidence that has come to light during the coroner's inquest into the
circumstances of the death of PC David Shreeve in 2005 the Scottish
Police Federation has written to the Association of Chief Police Officers
in Scotland (ACPOS) asking that the Honda Pan European ST1300A motorcycle
is withdrawn from police use until further investigations have been
conducted.
PC
David Shreeve, a Me rseyside police officer, was tragically killed on
9 th November 2005 on a training course when the Honda Pan European
ST1300A motorcycle he was riding on the M58 motorway developed a high
speed weave which suddenly and unexpectedly became uncontrollable.
Norrie
Flowers , chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, says:
Evidence
that came to light during the coroner's inquest resulted in the coroner
stating that the ‘Honda Pan European ST1300A motorcycle in police specification
poses a serious and continued threat to the health and life of officers
using the motorcycle in excess of 80 miles per hour'.
Norrie
Flowers adds
“In
view of the coroner's pronouncement we have written to the Association
of Chief Police Officers in Scotland calling on them to immediately
withdraw the Honda ST1300A motorcycle from police use until further
investigations have been carried out.”
