Police Officers being targeted by massive recruitment drive to attract them overseas – Emigrate 5000

Mr Joe Grant , General Secretary of the Scottish Police Federation said,

“Such a development underlines our view that Scottish police officers have always been a valuable but now much sought after commodity. While perhaps 10 years ago we wouldn't have thought of globalisation as affecting our labour market, in truth for many years some officers have taken their policing skills to other countries including Bermuda and Hong Kong .

The challenge for Scotland must be that it remains attractive socially and economically as a place to live and work.

The challenges for the Service are to establish the reasons why we lose those officers, ensure that police officers are properly rewarded and of course look to initiatives like this within the Commonwealth. Additionally, there is perhaps, an untapped capacity amongst those who have sought refuge in this country as asylum seekers and are now in the process of naturalisation.”
