Reliance Scottish Operations Director, Campbell O'Connell's comments - police allowing prisoners to escape on purpose.

In response to Campbell O’Connell’s comments that the police were “quite happy for an individual to get out because they could perhaps arrest them at a weekend and keep them out of trouble, Douglas Keil, General Secretary of the Scottish Police Federation said,

“I have spoken to a number of police officers who work in the courts and they absolutely refute Mr McConnell’s comments. Any suggestion that the police deliberately let prisoners escape is complete nonsense. These officers tell me they are bending over backwards to assist Reliance and are going far beyond what might be considered reasonable to try to ensure Reliance get it right. They are extremely angry about this and I don’t blame them. Reliance would be well advised to concentrate on their own shortcomings and get on with the job they are being well paid for.”
