Police Pay Surveys
Yesterday,
the Police Federation of England and Wales announced the results of
a survey it had carried out asking it's members what they thought
should have an important influence on police pay.
Joe
Grant , General Secretary of the Scottish Police Federation, said
he was glad England and Wales had followed Scotland 's lead in this
and that the results strengthened the Staff Sides position. He said,
“We
did the pay survey over last December and this January and I was pleased
when England and Wales said they would do the same thing. We know
what our members think about police pay and what it should be based
on but sometimes you need to show the other side in a negotiation
the ‘evidence'. Well we now have that evidence and the results of
the two surveys show a remarkable degree of similarity. We hope this
will send a strong message to Government and the Official Side of
the PNB that while we are not resistant to change, there are some
things far more important than others.”
Mr
Grant also said, “The negotiations have stalled meantime and we
are waiting for the Official Side to respond to some of our claims
and finalise its own thinking about what it is it really wants.”
